The Gift of Mobility

“In the name of Jesus Christ, arise and walk”  Acts 3:6

The Personal Energy Transporter, or PET is a hand-pedaled wheelchair designed to provide the gift of mobility.  There are an estimated 22 million people in the world who are captive to their inability to walk.  They have been disabled by birth defects, polio, landmine injury, amputation, disease or accident.

First United Methodist Church in Bryan has inherited a workshop to build Personal Energy Transports from a shop in Luling, Texas and will begin construction of PET as soon as funds can be obtained to provide the materials for volunteers to build these life-changing vehicles.

Each PET costs $250 to build and is built using wheelbarrow wheels and tires.  The PET can be built for adults and children and are sturdy to provide years of use.  Lowe’s and Mack Bolt & Steel have already agreed to provide materials at cost. Twin City Mission has provided the production facility at no cost and Audio video Security will provide security.  And a big thank you to Conlee/Garrett Moving for helping move everything to Bryan.

Needed to complete these PET are volunteers for constructing the PET, fundraising, and collections for items to be included in the shipping container.
